The Feeding is one of the three situations conditioned by The Receptive (Kun, 2). It comes, then, from darkness, and cedes to internal and external pressures to open and incorporate what circumstances bring. It´s also an expression sign because is associated all activity related with mouth: eating, talking, etc.
Wasting. What we have to say or want to ingest is no longer useful, are out of time or we´ll soon realize they´re caducous resources. Maybe we realize about it suddenly and someway abruptly but it seems the long-term result is our thought renewal. Meanwhile, our actions are not clear, muddy and don´t get what we look for, or even we´re overflooded by floods that make us waste time and energy. In this risky situation to handle as we can, we´ll have to measure our mouth openness.
Words of power. What goes out of the mouth can defeat obstacles, knock down fences and produce a new stage where planning. As in K´an, the thought had reached an endpoint but also turns to more productive: softness is the key to advance. Instead of fighting against obstacles, we become malleable to produce through our own movement a dispersion of wrong actions, a dissolution of negativity that separates and doesn´t allow regenerate the transformations natural cycle. In this situation, it´s fundamental to observe what we say or what we ingest letting it penetrate our being.
Give a present. Our expression can also lead to an expansive movement of inner beauty, as someone who opens his house doors to let out what treasures in an act of giving. The mind, empty, is in a second plane and feelings prime. We´ve already chewed foods and digestion had resulted in a nice product, worthy of sharing, although we share with just one person. Mental barriers disappear and this movement from inside keeps in it certain destructive traits on forms but is about destructing what separates, what divides, what fills with contents and subtracts space for movement.
With these reviews, we can observe how The Feeding situation appears in other four experiences mentioned in the I Ching: The Abyss (K´An, 29), The Dissolution (Huan, 59), The Restriction (Chieh, 60) and The Inner Truth (Chung Fu, 61). These I (Yi) relationships show a common basis: in all of them, action on the world is affected by internal reasons, that is, due to emerges from within. Declared and resolutive actions are not recommended in the external and the main observation point is always our inner world, including our most intimate thoughts and motivations. Such are The Feeding sign characteristics when we find it as the hidden meaning in hexagrams.
